With
the 2018 edition of The Game Awards set for a December 6 livestreamed
broadcast, nominees across 31 categories have been revealed.
Wild West adventure "Red Dead Redemption 2" and fantasy action epic "God of War"
are two of six titles in the running for Game of the Year at combined
awards gala and promotional announcement event The Game Awards 2018.
In
addition, both titles are in contention for another seven accolades:
Best Action / Adventure Game, Game Direction, Narrative, Art Direction,
Score / Music, Audio Design, and Performance.
Also put forward for Game of the Year are several other multiple nominees.
"Assassin's Creed Odyssey" has been recommended for Action / Adventure, Art Direction, and Performance; "Celeste" could yet receive Best Score / Music, Best Independent Game, and the Games for Impact award; "Marvel's Spider-Man" is up for Action / Adventure, Game Direction, Narrative, Score / Music, Audio Design, and Performance, and "Monster Hunter: World" has a shot at winning Best Role-Playing Game and Best Multiplayer.
Noticeably absent from GOTY at the TGAs is highly popular, highly polished last-person-standing cacophony of color, "Fortnite."
It
can be found inside a category for games that receive multiple and
sizeable content updates, Best Ongoing Game, alongside "Destiny 2," "No
Man's Sky," 2017 category winner "Overwatch" and "Tom Clancy's Rainbow
Six Siege."
Thanks
to its availability on Android and iOS devices as well as consoles and
computers, "Fortnite" also has a spot in the Mobile Game category, in
with bizarre hole-rustler "Donut County," love story "Florence," TV
series card game tie-in "Reigns: Game of Thrones," and 2017's Best
Multiplayer Game (and "Fortnite" forerunner) "PlayerUnknown's
Battlegrounds."
"Fortnite" also has a berth in Best Multiplayer Game and Best eSports Game.
Six more awards relate to eSports: best player, team, coach, tournament event, host, and moment.
