The Samsung Galaxy A8s might be the first Samsung phone to have a display cutout, a design that's also expected to be part of the Galaxy S10.

The Samsung Galaxy S10 is already rumored to arrive with a hole in
its display to accommodate the front-facing camera. However, the first
Samsung phone to feature this type of design might actually be the
mid-range Galaxy A8s.
Renders for the Galaxy A8s have hit the web and the show what the
upcoming smartphone might look like. The renders of the device were
created by the German website AllAboutSamsung.
They were created based on numerous rumors and other leaks. Although
these aren’t official press renders, they do provide everyone a clear
image of what the device could look like. The renders may also hint at
what to expect from the Galaxy S10 lineup, which is expected to launch early next year.
It’s
important to point out that AllAboutSamsung was the one that revealed
the accurate render of the Galaxy A9 (2018) a month before it was
officially announced by Samsung, according to GSM Arena.
The
Galaxy A8s comes with a true edge-to-edge display with very slim bezels
on all sides. The bottom chin appears to be a little thicker, but it’s
thin enough that it isn’t a huge distraction. The hole in the display is
located on the upper left-hand side of the handset and it houses the
front-facing camera module.
It’s widely believed that this is
Samsung’s Infinity O display, which was teased by the South Korean
company earlier this month during its annual Developers Conference. The
Infinity O is just one of four new Infinity Displays that Samsung is
currently developing. The Infinity U features a notch similar to what’s
found on the Essential Phone, while the Infinity V is almost exactly the
same except the notch has sharper edges. There’s also what’s been
dubbed as “New Infinity,” which doesn’t have a notch or a cutout of any
kind but offers a true all-screen experience.
The addition of the
Infinity O display on the Galaxy A8s signals Samsung’s desire to deliver
on a true all-screen smartphone without having to put a large notch in
the display. The small circular hole should be a lot less intrusive and
it’s likely that a lot of users who aren’t fans of notches will
appreciate this type of design.
On the back, the renders show that
the Galaxy A8s will have triple cameras that look a lot like what’s
already found on the Galaxy A7 (2018). The device also appears to still
have a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, which also means that the
device won’t have an in-display sensor.
It was previously rumored
that the Galaxy A8s will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710
processor along with a 3,000mAh battery. There’s still no word on an
official release date, but it’s being speculated that it may arrive
sometime in early 2019 before the launch of the Galaxy S10.
