A new entry in the Phantasy Star series, Idola: Phantasy Star Saga, is coming to mobile devices in Japan later this year, Sega announced today. It’s the first new title in the role-playing game franchise since 2014’s Phantasy Star Nova for PlayStation Vita.

Idola: Phantasy Star Saga looks more inline with the traditional Phantasy Star role-playing games than the more recent Phantasy Star Online titles. It uses a command-based, turn-based system, but Sega hasn’t revealed specific gameplay details yet. Idola also appears to use mobile gaming’s ubiquitous gacha-based system for unlocking and recruiting characters.
The main characters of Idola: Phantasy Star Saga are Stella, the leader of the Aries Knights, a battalion that fights the titular monsters known as Idola; and Yuri, an orphaned boy who joins the Aries Knights after a chance encounter with Stella. Protagonists Stella and Yuri will fight alongside other characters in battles against the Idola and the returning evil presence known as Dark Falz.
